How Pokémon TCG Card Prices Are Calculated

JK Index provides accurate, real-time pricing data for Pokémon TCG cards by analyzing confirmed sales (sold listings) across major marketplaces. Our methodology focuses on market price, transparency, and reliability.

Confirmed Sales Only

Unlike platforms that rely on listing prices or asking prices, JK Index uses only confirmed sales data. This means we track actual transactions where a card was sold, not just what sellers are asking for. This approach provides a more accurate representation of the true market value.

Multiple Marketplace Sources

We aggregate sales data from multiple trusted sources, including major online marketplaces and specialized trading card platforms. By combining data from different sources, we ensure a comprehensive view of the market that isn't skewed by a single platform's pricing patterns.

Condition and Grade Filtering

Card prices vary significantly based on condition. Raw (ungraded) cards are typically categorized as Near Mint, Lightly Played, or Moderately Played. Graded cards have been professionally evaluated and assigned a numeric grade (e.g., PSA 10, PSA 9) by third-party grading services.

JK Index separates pricing data by condition and grade, ensuring that when you view prices for a "PSA 10" card, you're seeing data only from PSA 10 sales, not mixed with lower grades or raw cards.

Market Price Calculation

Our Market Price metric represents the estimated current market value of a card. This calculation considers:

  • Recent sales activity (newer sales weighted more heavily)
  • Sale volume and quantity
  • Price consistency across sources
  • Outlier detection to filter unusual transactions

This approach ensures that Market Price reflects the most probable clearing price in today's market, not just an average of all historical sales.

Real-Time Updates

Our pricing data is updated regularly as new sales are recorded. Each card page shows when the data was last refreshed, so you always know how current the information is.

Why This Matters

Accurate pricing data helps collectors make informed decisions about buying, selling, and trading Pokémon cards. By using confirmed sales and filtering by condition, JK Index provides a reliable foundation for understanding card values in the current market.
