Is the Evolving Skies ETB a Good Investment in 2026? Data + Verdict
$39.99 MSRP in August 2021. $537–$580 sealed in August 2026. 13–15× over five years, roughly 55–58% compounded. That is the strongest-performing modern Pokémon ETB in the SwSh era and one of the strongest across any era. The question this guide answers: does it still make sense to enter at $550+, or has the trade already played out?
Every number is a mid-market comp from JK Index Marketplace, TCGplayer, eBay Sold, PriceCharting, and PSA pop reports as of August 5, 2026.
What's on the evolving skies price list right now?
| Format | MSRP | Sealed comp (Aug 2026) | 24-mo change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elite Trainer Box (Vaporeon/Espeon/Sylveon/Glaceon) | $39.99 | $537 | +40% |
| Elite Trainer Box (Flareon/Jolteon/Umbreon/Leafeon) | $39.99 | $580 | +52% |
| Pokémon Center ETB (10 packs) | $39.99 | $700+ | +59%+ |
| Booster Box (36 packs) | $99.99 | $2,650 | +45% |
| Case (6 boxes) | Retail | $15,900 | Same 26× vs MSRP |
| Booster Bundle (6 packs) | $23.99 | $340 | +55% |
| Evolving skies sleeved booster (Rayquaza VMAX art) | $4.99 | $45 – $60 | +40% |
| Build & Battle Box (4 packs + deck) | $19.99 | $150 – $200 | +40% |
The booster box has appreciated more than the ETB on a percentage basis (26× vs 13–14× vs MSRP). If you have the capital and 3-year horizon, the box is the more efficient vehicle.
How much is an evolving skies etb or booster box in 2026?
Live prices for every sealed SKU and every chase card are on JK Index Marketplace. The 30/90/all-time chart tells you whether today's price sits above or below the quarterly median before you buy.
The two ETB variants trade at different prices because sleeve art matters to collectors. The Flareon/Jolteon/Umbreon/Leafeon variant carries the Umbreon association, which is the set's chase name.
How has the evolving skies booster box price moved in the last 12 months?
Sealed Evolving Skies has been in a slow grinding uptrend since 2023. No sharp spikes, no sharp drops. This is what a mature-supply market looks like.
| Period | Booster box | ETB |
|---|---|---|
| Aug 2021 (launch) | $130 pre-order | $39.99 |
| Aug 2022 (rotation active) | $250 – $300 | ~$110 |
| Aug 2023 (post-rotation) | $600 – $850 | ~$220 |
| Aug 2024 | $1,400 – $1,800 | ~$380 |
| Aug 2025 | $2,100 – $2,400 | ~$470 |
| Aug 2026 | $2,650 | $537 – $580 |
Roughly a doubling every 12 months from 2023 through mid-2025, decelerating to ~15% YoY through 2026. The 2022–2023 entrants captured the exponential leg. 2026 buyers are entering the linear leg. Both are still positive trades. Not the same trade.
Reddit investors sharing their own book-value trajectories back this up. On r/PokeInvesting, u/iamsplitter (2026-01-13) posted: "My position: ES PC ETB set of both styles $377.64 on February 4, 2024. Currently worth between $1500-1800 (for reference currently ES bboxes are 3500-4000 ea). Thats about 4-5x in less than 2 years." Their booster-box quote at $3,500–$4,000 sits at the upper end of asking prices — mid-market comps land nearer $2,650, and eBay Sold + TCGplayer today spans both.
Is evolving skies out of print? Supply and pop-report check
Print run and reprint policy drive sealed-product appreciation more than any other factor. Evolving Skies has one of the strongest supply setups of the modern era.
- Print run was large but not infinite. Heavy production Aug 2021 through Mar 2022, then production wound down.
- The Pokémon Company has not confirmed a reprint. The set is out of active production.
- Sword & Shield block product is cleared off distributor shelves. As of 2026, most retailers have exhausted sealed inventory. Remaining supply lives on secondary market venues and JK Index Marketplace.
PSA population for the two chase cards
| Card | Total PSA pop | PSA 10 |
|---|---|---|
| Umbreon VMAX Full Art (95/203) | 28,118 | 19,858 |
| Umbreon VMAX Alt Art Secret "Moonbreon" (215/203) | Smaller pool | ~700 |
| Rayquaza VMAX Full Art (111/203) | 19,896 | 13,841 |
| Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art Secret (218/203) | Smaller pool | Lower thousands |
The Moonbreon PSA 10 population sitting at ~700 (vs ~19,858 for the regular Full Art) is why the Alt Art carries a $2,000+ PSA 10 premium while the regular Full Art trades $250–$400.
Rule: fewer than 1,000 PSA 10s + no confirmed reprint = graded price floor holds. That's the investment case for an Evolving Skies chase card in one line.
What are the evolving skies best cards and top evolving skies cards worth right now?
Supply matters. Demand matters more, because supply is fixed and demand can shift.
Search volume. "moonbreon" holds 20,000–30,000 monthly searches through 2026, same as 2024. "evolving skies etb" sits at 23,000. Stable, not accelerating, not collapsing.
Reddit sentiment. On r/PokeInvesting, u/Shak3painslut20 (2026-06-02) framed the whole set: "The print run was massive but the pull rates are so abysmal that this set will inevitably be the crown jewel of the era long term." That framing is what pulls new buyers in.
Alt-art singles market. The chase cards, also known as evolving skies hits, drag sealed with them. Top 5 chase cards, English, PSA 10 mid-market, August 2026 (these are the evolving skies most valuable cards, the evolving skies best cards, the top evolving skies cards, and the best cards evolving skies collectors chase):
| Rank | Card | Set number | PSA 10 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Umbreon VMAX Alt Art Secret (Moonbreon) | 215/203 | ~$2,600 (peak $4,000+) |
| 2 | Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art Secret | 218/203 | $1,700 – $1,850 |
| 3 | Sylveon VMAX Alt Art | 212/203 | ~$600 |
| 4 | Leafeon VMAX Alt Art | 205/203 | ~$500 |
| 5 | Glaceon VMAX Alt Art | 208/203 | ~$450 |
For the mid-tier Umbreon printings that ETB openers pull more often: Rainbow Rare 214/203 and Full Art 95/203.
Japanese evolving skies
The English set is a merge of two Japanese sets: Eevee Heroes (s6a) and Skyscraping Perfection (s7D). Japanese sealed trades separately.
- Japanese Eevee Heroes booster box: $1,400 – $1,900
- Japanese Skyscraping Perfection booster box: $450 – $700
- Japanese Moonbreon (from Eevee Heroes VSTAR Universe) grades cleaner than English
Should you crack an evolving skies etb in 2026? Sealed pull EV + grading upside
Two ways to make money on a sealed Evolving Skies ETB.
Path A: hold sealed. Simple compounding. Buy at $550 today, target $632 in 12 months at the 15% YoY rate. $727 at 24 months. $836 at 36 months. Downside is bounded by the singles market floor. If Moonbreon PSA 10 stays above $2,000, sealed ETB stays above $500.
Path B: crack the ETB. 8 packs. Aggregate expected pull outcomes:
| Outcome | Probability | Value contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Any Alt Art Secret pull from 8 packs | ~8.5% | +$45 weighted across all Alt Arts |
| Specifically Moonbreon or Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art | ~1.7% | +$45 weighted |
| Standard pulls (Full Arts, Rainbow Rares, other Rares) | ~100% | Baseline $60–$90 |
Expected value from cracking an ETB in 2026: $150–$210 in singles. You paid $550. That is a losing crack before eBay fees, before shipping, before your time.
If the 1.7% moment lands a pack-fresh Moonbreon that grades PSA 10 (60–70% hit rate on pack-fresh Moonbreons per aggregated PSA data), you have a $2,000+ card that covers 3+ ETBs of buy-in. You cannot underwrite an investment on a 1.7% event. Any serious hold is Path A.
Rainbow Rare Umbreon VMAX (214/203) is the plausible grading trade you can actually get from an ETB. Raw NM ~$250, PSA 9 ~$400, PSA 10 ~$700. Rainbow Rare pull rate ~1 in 60 for SV7, so 8 packs has ~13% chance of hitting one.
Is evolving skies etb a good investment? Hold / flip / skip / DCA verdict
| Buying strategy | Verdict | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Hold if you own sealed at cost below $400 | STRONG HOLD | 15% YoY on paid basis of $400 = 40%+ annual return |
| Buy sealed at $537–$580 today, hold 2–3 years | HOLD (weak buy) | 15% YoY forward with tight downside. Positive expected return. Not a home run. |
| Buy sealed to crack | SKIP | Path B math is negative EV. Crack for fun, not profit. |
| Dollar-cost average into sealed | CONSIDER | 1 ETB per quarter reduces entry risk. Works with 3-year+ horizon. |
The long-hold thesis is a repeated Reddit call. On r/PokeInvesting, u/d4n0wnz (2025-12-18) wrote: "It'll go up, be patient. Give it another 2-5 years and they will be $600-1000+ each." At today's $537–$580 entry, that clears a 5-year 70–90% gain if it plays out.
ETB vs booster box: which is the better trade
Some Reddit investors argue the ETB isn't even the right SKU. On r/PokeInvesting, u/CandyMonsterx (2025-12-18) kept it simple: "I personally would sell the ETBs and get the booster boxes as they tend to have better ROI." The numbers back this up:
- ETB appreciation MSRP to now: 13–14× ($39.99 → $537–$580 over ~5 years)
- Booster box appreciation MSRP to now: 26× ($99.99 → ~$2,650 over ~5 years)
The box has appreciated roughly twice as fast on a percentage basis. If you have the capital, box is the better vehicle.
Handling and storage risk
Sealed ETBs are only worth what a buyer pays for a mint sealed box. A small dent, tear, or crushed corner takes real money off resale.
On r/PokeInvesting, u/Primextime92 (2026-07-02) put the discount in dollar terms: "I was at a card show and a rip similar to this or even smaller was considered over a $100 difference on this etb." Approximate condition-discount table:
| Damage type | Discount vs mint sealed |
|---|---|
| Small tear on outer shrink | 10 – 15% |
| Crushed corner or dented top | 15 – 25% |
| Missing shrink | 25%+ |
At $537 entry, a $100 damage discount is ~19% of your position. Handle sealed with plastic sleeves, store away from direct heat, avoid stacking pressure.
If you want faster returns, look at a different set
Evolving Skies is the mature trade. Higher percentage moves happen elsewhere. On r/PokemonInvesting, u/garythegamergod (2026-08-04) summed it up: "You would see higher returns in a set thats about to retire." Current examples of sets nearing rotation with higher percentage upside: Destined Rivals and Surging Sparks (late Scarlet & Violet block products that haven't hit the post-rotation appreciation curve yet).
Evolving Skies is several years into that curve. Faster percentage returns are available on younger sealed product, with correspondingly higher execution risk on picking the right set.
If you already own graded copies
Hold. The graded singles market is where the underlying value lives, and PSA 10 populations on the Alt Art Secrets remain small enough to protect the price. Only sell on a specific liquidity need.
Live price history, PSA population trends, and every evolving skies top cards comp sit on JK Index Marketplace. Before you buy anything above $500, check the 90-day chart. Buy near a local low, not a local high. If you're planning to grade raw Evolving Skies pulls, run each card through Before the Slab first — it catches the corner whitening and print-line defects that keep otherwise-clean Rainbow Rares from grading Gem Mint.
