Every Vaporeon Card Variant Ranked by Value (2026)

Published by JK Index · Updated August 2026

Vaporeon is the Eeveelution collectors keep forgetting to buy.

Umbreon gets the Moonbreon spotlight. Sylveon gets the Sunbreon nickname. Espeon has the quiet-compounder reputation. And Vaporeon just sort of… waits. It's the water Eeveelution that's been in the TCG since 1999, has produced multiple grail-tier prints, and yet somehow keeps getting priced like a mid-tier chase. That gap between recognition and pricing is exactly what makes Vaporeon interesting in 2026.

Let's walk through every Vaporeon that matters.

Vaporeon 1st Edition Holo (Jungle, 1999)

Where the modern Vaporeon market actually starts. The Jungle set Vaporeon Holo is the vintage anchor for every Eeveelution collection, and the 1st Edition version is where the real value lives. The illustration — Vaporeon mid-crest of a wave, translucent detailing on the fins — is one of the most beautiful examples of 1999-era Pokémon TCG art.

  • Raw NM: $120–$180
  • PSA 8: $340–$480
  • PSA 9: $820–$1,150
  • PSA 10: $2,400–$3,200

PSA 10 population sits at 280 for the 1st Edition — meaningfully tighter than most Jungle holos. The Unlimited version drops to roughly one-third of that pricing ($780–$1,050 PSA 10), which is the accessible entry point for anyone building a Jungle Eeveelution set.

Gold Star Vaporeon (POP Series 5, 2007)

The grail tier. Gold Star Vaporeon was distributed as a POP Series 5 promo — an organized-play distribution channel that most collectors weren't part of, which means the surviving copies are genuinely rare. The Gold Star treatment turns Vaporeon's blues into a metallic teal-silver that photographs unusually well.

  • Raw NM: $2,600–$3,400
  • PSA 10: $11,000–$15,000

PSA 10 population: 47. This is the same rarity tier as Gold Star Espeon and Gold Star Umbreon, and yet Vaporeon consistently trades at 15-25% below those siblings — for no obvious reason beyond character bias. That's the arbitrage. If you're building a Gold Star set, buy Vaporeon before you buy Umbreon.

Vaporeon VMAX (Evolving Skies, 2021)

The modern reference point. Evolving Skies delivered a Vaporeon VMAX that has held pricing better than the wider set's non-alt-art VMAX prints.

  • Raw NM: $85–$120
  • PSA 10: $260–$360

Not spectacular. Just consistent. The card doesn't have Sunbreon or Moonbreon's alt-art energy — it's the standard-rarity VMAX — but the Evolving Skies context (same set as Moonbreon, finished print run) keeps the demand curve steady.

Vaporeon Star (EX Power Keepers, 2007)

An underappreciated grail. The star-rarity Vaporeon Star from EX Power Keepers is one of the last star-rarity English prints, and it sits in a specific market pocket where fewer than 220 PSA 10 copies exist in circulation.

  • Raw NM: $580–$780
  • PSA 10: $2,800–$3,800

The star-rarity treatment has aged well — the metallic starfish detail on the card border remains distinctive even 19 years later. This is a card that's more likely to be undervalued than overvalued as of August 2026. Track live comps via the Vaporeon card index reference.

Dark Vaporeon (Team Rocket, 2000)

Every Eeveelution has a Team Rocket villain print, and Dark Vaporeon is one of the more artistically interesting ones. The Dark Vaporeon holo listing reflects the modern market — where the Team Rocket 1st Edition Eeveelutions have been quietly compounding for the last three years.

  • Raw NM: $58–$85
  • PSA 10 (Unlimited holo): $580–$780
  • PSA 10 (1st Edition holo): $1,600–$2,200

The 1st Edition print run was small enough that PSA 10 population sits under 90 — comparable to the flagship holos from the same set. If you own a childhood Team Rocket Dark Vaporeon that's been sleeved, submit it.

Which Vaporeon should you actually buy?

Three profiles based on budget and horizon.

Under $1,500: the Evolutions set or Jungle Unlimited Holo. Iconic, recognizable, no reprint threat, sub-$1,100 PSA 10 entry. The safe start.

Under $3,500: Jungle 1st Edition Holo. Foundational vintage, still accessible relative to peer Eeveelutions, and the appreciation curve since 2020 has been steady 12–15% annually.

Under $15,000 (grail tier): Gold Star Vaporeon. Undervalued relative to Gold Star Umbreon and Espeon. Under 50 PSA 10 copies in circulation. This is the character-arbitrage play — buy while the market still treats Vaporeon as second-tier.

Skip: the Vaporeon V Rainbow Rare and Vaporeon GX Base. Populations exceed 3,000 at PSA 10. Volume dilutes returns.

Final take

Vaporeon is the collector-market's blind spot in the Eeveelution family. Every serious Eeveelution collection eventually needs a Vaporeon — usually the Jungle 1st Edition, sometimes the Gold Star if the budget stretches — and the moment the character bias corrects, the prices catch up quickly. Buy the Jungle 1st Edition PSA 10 while it's still under $3,500. Buy the Gold Star if you're building a serious case. Everything else is optional. In ten years, this is the Eeveelution the market will have quietly repriced.
