Every Espeon Card Variant Ranked by Value (2026)

Every Espeon Card Variant Ranked by Value (2026)

Published by JK Index · Updated August 2026

Espeon has a problem, and the problem is Umbreon.

For most of the last four years, every Eeveelution conversation has ended with somebody saying "Moonbreon" and everyone else nodding. The dark counterpart got the alt-art of the decade. Espeon got a sunny meadow, a knowing look, and second billing. And yet — and this is the part nobody says out loud — Espeon has quietly built one of the cleanest, most predictable appreciation curves in the entire modern Pokémon market.

Not the loudest. Just the most consistent. Let's talk about why.

The one that started the modern Espeon story: Neo Discovery Holo (2001)

You want to understand Espeon's market? Start with the Neo Discovery 1st Edition Holo (#3/75). Same artist who drew half your childhood favorites — the composition is a psychic-purple field, Espeon mid-leap, that dreamy watercolor treatment Neo-era cards were famous for.

  • Raw NM: $180–$260
  • PSA 8: $650–$900
  • PSA 9: $1,600–$2,200
  • PSA 10: $4,200–$5,800

The 1st Edition PSA 10 anchor listing has been the quiet foundation of every serious Eeveelution case for the last decade. Population sits at 178. Not scarce enough to be untouchable — scarce enough to matter.

The Unlimited version is the smart entry point at $1,100–$1,500 PSA 10.

Gold Star Espeon (POP Series 5, 2007)

Now we're in grail country. Gold Star Espeon was a promo distribution — POP Series 5, given at organized play events, extremely limited print. If you weren't at the right tournament in 2007, you weren't getting one.

  • Raw NM: $2,200–$2,800
  • PSA 10: $8,500–$11,000

PSA 10 population: 51. Every time Gold Star Espeon shows up at auction, the price ratchets. It's the closest thing to a "Moonbreon of the vintage era" that any Eeveelution has — except most people don't know it exists.

Read that again.

Sunbreon: Espeon VMAX Alt Art (Evolving Skies, 2021)

The one that gets called "Sunbreon" in the collector community. From the same set as Moonbreon. Different vibe, different price point.

  • Raw NM: $180–$260
  • PSA 10: $720–$980

Espeon VMAX Alt Art has done roughly 4x since 2022 — not the 8x that Moonbreon has, but far cleaner appreciation without the volatility. Fewer speculators, more collectors. That matters when you look at 5-year holding periods.

Sunbreon buyers tend to be Eeveelution completionists — the people who own Moonbreon already, or who couldn't afford Moonbreon and picked the sister card. Either way, the demand is durable.

Modern refresh: Espeon ex from Prismatic Evolutions (2025)

The Prismatic Evolutions set delivered another Espeon ex Special Illustration Rare that instantly hit collector radar. As of August 2026:

  • Raw NM: $95–$140
  • PSA 10: $320–$450

Still climbing. Prismatic Evolutions was a set with tight supply and heavy demand at launch, and the Espeon ex has behaved like a modern chase card should — steady appreciation, no crash. Track it via the Espeon card index reference for updated comps.

Which Espeon should you actually buy?

Depends what you already own.

If you own Moonbreon: buy Sunbreon. Same set, same era, same visual language. It's the natural pairing, and Sunbreon is still under-collected by roughly 4x on PSA 10 pricing.

If you own zero Eeveelutions: start with the Neo Discovery Unlimited Holo. Under $1,500 PSA 10, vintage stripes on your resume, and a card that will hold value in every market cycle you'll ever be in.

If you have money to spend and want a grail: Gold Star Espeon. Nobody outside dedicated Eeveelution collectors knows it exists at $9,000. In three years, everybody will.

Skip: the Espeon V Rainbow Rare from Evolving Skies. It's a fine card. It also has 4,000+ PSA 10 population. Volume kills return.

Final take

Espeon is the Eeveelution that collectors buy when they've matured out of the meme-cards phase. It doesn't have the alt-art dominance of Umbreon. It doesn't have the immediate visual pop of Sylveon. What it has is a 25-year track record of clean, quiet appreciation — the kind of returns that never get you invited on a podcast but do buy you a house eventually. The best cards are almost never the loudest ones. Espeon is the proof.
